Planning for Growth |
The LEAP project has demonstrated that we must take a holistic view of economic development. A view that considers the key role water plays in our agricultural and industrial economy, as well as in our health and wellbeing.
I support the use of independent consultants and scientists to determine how much water can be withdrawn from local aquifers without damaging the water supply or the Wabash River. We must balance the benefits of economic growth with the need for a clean and abundant water supply in Tippecanoe County. |
As the former Director of Food Finders, I am aware of the valuable network of social services available in Tippecanoe County. These organizations fill the gaps left by cuts to federal, state, and local funding. They support children, the elderly, and those who are unemployed. They care for people experiencing homelessness or serious mental illness. Our county has a shortage of mental healthcare providers. If elected, I will seek to use some uncommitted tax revenue to increase support for social service agencies and to address the shortage of mental healthcare providers in our county. Using funds in this way will enhance our entire community and increase public safety.

If elected I will work diligently to encourage comprehensive land use planning for Tippecanoe County. We need more housing for newcomers and more options for middle and moderate income households. If we are to maintain a high quality of life for all we must plan for growth. Before giving approval to new housing developments, we need to consider infrastructure and environmental impact. To prevent urban sprawl we must incentivize redevelopment in existing neighborhoods. We need to ensure that those appointed to the Area Plan Commission share the values of the community they serve.
